PS3 vs XBox 360 vs Wii – Part 3: Games

This is the third part of a series that looks at and compares the Wii (including Motion Plus), the PS3 (including PlayStation Move) and the XBox 360 (including Kinect) – as always highly subjective.
This part of the series focuses on games, actually on party multiplayer games and exclusive titles.

Party Multiplayer Games

This is focusing on games that up to four people can play simultaneously in one room.

Wii

  • There are lots of great party multiplayer games for Wii. I wrote a dedicated post on this.
  • Worms and Bomberman are also available. And Tetris.
  • You’ll need up to four Wiimotes and maybe four Nunchuck Controllers and maybe four Motion Plus add-ons.

PS3

  • Start the Party (for PlayStation Move) is nice. You can’t play it simultaneously, but you’ll need only one Move controller that will be passed around.
  • Buzz: A series of great quiz games that started already on the PlayStation 2.
  • You can re-use Buzz controllers, even the wired ones for the PS2. If you have two sets, some Buzz games can be played with up to 8 players.
  • Worms and Bomberman are also available.
  • So far there are no PlayStation Move games available that allow playing for four people simultaneously.

XBox 360

  • The Scene It series are great movie quizzes. Includes 4 wireless buzzers, up to four players simultaneously.
  • Worms and Bomberman are also available.
  • That you do not need additional controllers for multiplayer might only be an advantage in theory. Actually you’ll need so much room that it might be impossible in most living rooms to have 4 players play simultaneously – In mine already two seems not to work.

Other Games and Exclusives

Lots of games are available more or less identical for PS3 and XBox 360 but still there are some exclusive titles. There are more exclusives for the Wii (the good ones are usually Nintendo 1st party titles).

  • If you want Mario games or Zelda, you need a Wii.
  • If you want Buzz, Little Big Planet, God of War or Gran Turismo, you need a PS3.
  • If you want Forza Motorsport, Halo of Fable, you need a XBox 360.

This series will continue.
